About WaterAid
WaterAid is the UK's only major charity dedicated exclusively to the provision of safe domestic water and sanitation and hygiene promotion for the world's poorest people. WaterAid believes in the power of water. Clean water is essential for life. With it, we live, laugh, celebrate and cry. Without it we die. Safe water is a necessity, but a quarter of the world's population does not have it. WaterAid, with its partners, uses practical solutions and all the resources available to it to provide safe water to the world's poorest people. To maximise health benefits, it does this through projects integrating domestic water provision, sanitation and hygiene promotion. We work with individuals and families in their communities, paying special attention to the role of women, enabling them to take ownership of these projects and to maintain a lasting supply of safe water. And we influence others to do the same. We believe that our approach makes it possible for communities to sustain a better quality of life, and is an essential step in the eradication of poverty. Together with our supporters, we strive for a world where everyone has access to safe water for life, for living, and for a lifetime.
It costs WaterAid about £15 to provide someone with a lasting supply of clean water. Challenge 8000 has already raised enough money to help over 4,000 take those vital first steps out of poverty towards happier, healthier lives.
